The club is built on top of the old Layla bar, which was a great place too. The club is dark but not too much, not too big but has several separate areas and has a good vibe. Trance music is usually played.

Radio E.P.G.B. is an ultra-hip underground club in the heart of Tel Aviv.
With it’s unique edge and alternative appeal, it’s the place to be for the who’s who of Tel Aviv’s art and fashion scene.
It is a sanctuary for music lovers and nightlife scenesters alike. The music lineup is always stellar and right on point, which makes the Radio a perfect venue for live performances by indie bands and musicians.

The name ‘Radio’ was brought about in an effort to ‘broadcast’ this unique content to the people, as well as to emphasize the club’s open line of communication with the city. Thereby, always moving and shaking with the times and trends. This sets the Radio apart as a true ‘tastemaker’ in the Tel Aviv nightlife culture scene.

Radio’s punk and rock roots are clear to see from the design of the place.
The amazing graffiti covered bathroom walls were inspired by the legendary C.B.G.B in New York City. While a collage of musically historic newspaper clippings creatively cover the walls of the club. Coupled with the elegant and classic design of the bar, all of these elements come together to create a warm and homey atmosphere.

But what makes the Radio stand on it’s own as a true trailblazer in the Tel Aviv nightlife scene, is without a doubt, the music. On any given night you’ll find one of Radio’s world renowned DJ’s playing a set consisting of indie-rock and updated indietronica mixed with classic punk rock.

What does E.P.G.B. stand for, you ask? That remains a mystery…

I see that my learned friend has described every wine bar that he’s familiar with, so here’s another one…

On Shabazi Street, in Neveh Tzedek, across the street from its father – Jajo (the hottest place for a date) – is a small place with a bar that can host up to 18 people, and another bar that faces the street. The place is called Jajo Vino, and it meets the high expectations that go along with its name.

There is a huge wine selection – many wines from Israel and abroad.

They open bottles every day in order to sell wine by the glass, but choosing a bottle from the never-ending list, that will go well with the amazing cheese platter that they serve, is an awesome experience.

The owner of the two places is Oved Zetouny, who some of us remember from the Israel’s first crime series – “Yarkon District” – and has ruled Shabazi ever since…

It’s worth a visit and very pleasant on a Friday afternoon.

One of the best and well-known restaurants in the city opened five years ago in a beautiful old building in Jaffa. The dishes are based on the slow cook “poyke” method – in a South African cast iron pot – in order to utilize the spread of heat and roast the steaks in the best possible manner.

Even the restaurant’s famous dessert – hot chocolate cake – is baked in a poyke!!!

So after many missed opportunities, I finally went to the restaurant last Friday. They are celebrating their fifth anniversary with a great deal – five double dishes + all you can drink cava for only NIS 220 per couple. That’s half off! It wasn’t hard to convince my wife – when she hears the word meat she starts running. I picked up two more couples and we headed over. We were there for four hours!! We didn’t want to leave. I think we left after the dishwasher went home. The food was \excellent and the cava flowed like arak at a Yemenite café. The pork, oysters, steak, fish and the amazing hot chocolate dessert were delicious…

Also contributing to the enjoyable evening were the lovely décor and the restaurant staff. There is a bar in the middle of the restaurant, around which the tables are situated. The lighting is gentle and intimate. There isn’t a heavy restaurant vibe. I’d really like to go back and sit at the bar for a drink or a meal. The staff is very nice, professional and pleasant, and is always smiling.

Despite the fact that we came for the fifth anniversary deal, glancing at their menu I noticed that the regular prices aren’t too steep.

So next time you want to sample some quality meat in a nice, relaxed atmosphere, sitting at the bar or at a table, head over to Poyke.

It took me a while, but I finally learned how to pronounce the name of this place correctly…

Jaffa is like a woman… Every year she looks better and more inviting than ever. The streets near the flea market are simply beautiful and pleasant, and restaurants and cafes and popping up everywhere.

Yesterday I went out with some friends. I was kind of worried that it would be too hot to sit outside, but there was a lovely breeze.

Most of the clientele is older, but cool – Tzipi Livni was at one table, Danny Gillerman and his stunning wife were at another table, journalist Raviv Drucker and his wife, also a journalist, were at another table, and there were many others…

The menu offers many types of pasta, fish and a 180-gram steak – a newly sized dish reminiscent of a child’s menu, but with adult prices. Let’s just say that an adult who orders that dish will not be satiated…

We also ordered two types of pasta and red striped mullet filets. All of the dishes were on the small side, tempting me to tell the waitress that the samples were fine and that we were ready for the real thing…

But the atmosphere is really fun. At some point they turned up the music and one of the hostesses broke out in a wild salsa dance.

On the way back to the car I enjoyed the amazing streets and buildings and decided that maybe some day, when I grow up, I’ll live there.

The international culinary standard is constantly on the rise, and for quite some time a diverse menu or millions of dollars spent on design have not been enough to succeed in Tel Aviv’s uncompromising “Restaurant Championship” – that’s why God created takeaway. What we’re looking for today has much more to do with a place’s personality and soul; to lure us out of the house they have to understand that food is a form of entertainment that includes quality dishes, excellent service, good prices and most importantly an atmosphere that encourages a hearty appetite and libido. After all, food is the most sensuous thing there is.

The bar culture’s sex appeal has trickled over to the culinary field, and the successful combination of alcohol and food is what brings us back to the same places. Many Tel Aviv restaurants are adorned with the “restaurant-bar” title, but few are able to provide the requisite substance. This is the reason why places like Barbunya Bar and Nanutchka have become popular, as they provide the ultimate package in one place.

The Charcuterie in Jaffa is a restaurant that successfully combines all of these elements and has a cherry on top – an international vibe and the authenticity of the flea market. The genius of such places abroad is that they aren’t expensive, making them a regular destination on various days and at different hours. In Israel, as usual, we think that we’re worth more, so whenever a product like this is offered it is usually destroyed with the wrong prices or dishes that do not suit the concept.

This is not the case at Charcuterie. The trip to the restaurant begins with an evening excursion to the flea market, where you approach a restaurant like the ones in Italian vacation films – lights blinking and tables in the open air, alongside a large bar. For those who prefer sitting at the bar in the air conditioning, there is also a large, welcoming bar inside. The enchantment continues to take over your senses when you go up to the top floor and the smell of smoked sausages wafts up, taunting your appetite. As soon as you sit down you know you’ve come to a place that loves food, with smiling, generous waiters who know what they’re talking about and enjoy helping with the light menu that focuses on meats and sausages handmade by the chef, as well as Mediterranean-European style seafood and fish.

I’ll admit that when I see a dish like “Sausage Plate” on the menu, I’m mesmerized and on most of my visits to the restaurants that dish managed to find its way to my table, though every time I’ve gotten something completely different. I must note that the best days were in the fall, when there were slices of pickled sirloin, with robust flavors and textures. Of my many samplings from others’ plates (Yes, J, it’s fun to dine with me…) I discovered that the seafood is delightful and that the shrimp in citrus and aniseed sauce (why always aniseed?! Luckily I couldn’t taste it) is an excellent dish for the seafarers among us.

But food isn’t the main topic of conversation, because like I said, the meal is served in an atmosphere that you just can’t buy, an atmosphere that puts a mischievous smile on your face, as you do vodka shots at the table and the music gets progressively louder, freeing you from thoughts of “where will we go later?” because it will continue here, in the magic of this little European place in the Jaffa flea market, where the wine makes you happy and the alcohol hits you hard. Indeed, they have found the winning formula. May there be more like them.

I’ve liked this little, wooden, very very smoker-friendly place for a long time…

It’s a hybrid of a local bar with really good food, and on summer days when it’s harder to digest meat (not for me personally, but in general…) it’s so fun to spend an evening, or Saturday after the beach (for those who can muster the courage to go to the beach and get mauled by the masses and the kids throwing sand…) at a side table or on the bar…

Yesterday, after I’d had enough of the air conditioner at home, I decided that I was hungry as well, plus it was time to give my electricity bill a break and go out to eat.

I met up with a friend at Barbunya Bar and before we even looked at the menu we ordered their mezes, including fresh bread and various tasty dishes like eggplant, tehini, beets, hummus, etc. And of course – drinks: Wine for her and Corona for me (probably the only place in town where Corona costs less than NIS 25).

We also got grilled asparagus, which was very nice, and then we moved on to the animals – an order of shrimp in garlic and olive oil and a plate of fried calamari – both of which were amazing.

We downed it all with whiskey and vodka chasers. So wonderful…

You can spend hours there, but we left – frozen by the air conditioner…

Keep it in mind for next Saturday, but also for a fun, early evening any other day.

Last Friday, when I got home at 7:00 A.M. after yet another crazy night out, I remembered that only a few hours prior I’d been at Rothschild’s Kitchen, with a bottle of white wine (Chardonnay – really good!) thinking to myself, “How fun, another calm night in the city.” Calm – yeah right. Though the place is like a café/bar/relaxed restaurant, with a great menu and beautiful décor, under the surface lies the hidden potential for a lot of alcohol, a young, dynamic atmosphere, a young, professional staff, fresh air and a fantastic location.

I should note that it’s good to know one of the staff members or owners, because then you get surprise chasers…

Like I said – everything starts at Rothschild’s Kitchen… and ends somewhere in the early hours of the morning…
